What is CSA SPE-1000?
CSA SPE-1000 is the Model Code for the Field Evaluation of Electrical Equipment. It provides requirements for evaluating electrical equipment where conventional product certification may not be available or practical.
EL-Safe Inc. performs field evaluations within its SCC-accredited scope.
Certification vs. Field Evaluation
Product certification and field evaluation are different conformity assessment activities.
A field evaluation assesses specific electrical equipment for conformity with applicable requirements. It does not constitute certification of a product line or manufacturing process.

When is a Field Evaluation Required?
A field evaluation may be appropriate for:
- Custom-built equipment
- Imported equipment
- Modified or altered equipment
- Relocated equipment
- One-of-a-kind equipment
- Equipment without an acceptable certification mark
- Equipment requiring evaluation by an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
Eligibility is subject to CSA SPE-1000, EL-Safe Inc.’s accredited scope, and applicable AHJ requirements.
